History

Mighty oaks from little acorns grow…

Truwood Furniture was founded in 1984 by Gordon Cook (Managing Director) to produce bespoke furniture, wood turning, antique restoration, furniture repairs and repolishing to the general public. The foundation of the business began near Chester in a domestic garage. From modest beginnings equipped with a cabinet makers tool chest, woodturning lathe and bandsaw the company grew. In 1985 a move became vital to a 3,000 square foot former bakery in Gwespyr (near Holywell, North Wales). In 1988 we experienced a near disaster with a fire that devastated our factory. But, thanks to G.T. Crofts in Chester (where Gordon Cook served his apprenticeship), who provided us with factory space, our staff could work night shifts enabling us to remain in production. In 1993 we moved to our present site in Mold on the North Wales/ Cheshire border. From this base we are ideally located to serve the whole of Great Britain.

Today

Operating from a modern, well-equipped 14,000 square foot factory Truwood Furniture has steadily expanded and is now a manufacturer to the trade. Most of our staff have served traditional apprenticeships and formal training in cabinet making, polishing and wood machining with many years of experience behind them. We are today the largest wooden furniture manufacture in the area.

We started our manufacture based on the concept of ‘Modern Style, Traditional Skills’ and have retained this as the cornerstone of our business.
